Supporting our Communities

With more than 120 branches in South Australia and Northern Territory, we're well placed to contribute to the local community through charity fundraising, being an active community member and supporting events and initiatives.

 BankSA and Staff Charitable Fund

The BankSA and Staff Charitable Fund began by sending "comfort parcels" to staff members serving in the Middle East during World War II and has continued donating to a wide range of charities ever since.

Today, staff members make voluntary contributions to the fund by donating a percentage of their salary. The Bank also makes major contributions to the fund on a quarterly basis. Each year the BankSA and Staff Charitable Fund donates money to more than 100 local charities and supports many more by providing fundraising assistance.

The BankSA Golf Day also raises funds to distribute to four nominated charities each year. In 2007, the Fund donated more than $235,000 to local charities.  Learn more about the Fund.

 Appeals and Disaster relief

We offer our extensive branch network to assist charities as a collection point for appeals from regular fundraisers such as SIDSÃ??Ã?¢?? Red Nose Day and the Cancer Council of SA’s Daffodil Day, to appeals to raise money for tragedies such as the Eyre Peninsula bushfires and the Asia tsunami.

For the Eyre Peninsula bushfires BankSA collected $157,000 on behalf of the Salvation Army Appeal and $168,000 on behalf of the Red Cross Appeal.

 Community Partnerships/Sponsorships

We are actively involved in hundreds of initiatives and grass-roots events throughout South Australia - events that benefit the community and enhance the vibrancy of the State.

 Putting the finger on crime

BankSA Crime Stoppers began in South Australia in 1996 and BankSA has been on board as naming rights sponsor from the very beginning.  BankSA Crime Stoppers is an important initiative that encourages the public to provide information to prevent and solve crime.  Since its inception, well in excess of 14,000 crimes have been solved through BankSA Crime Stoppers.

 Supporting local businesses

Through our support of the Messenger Newspapers Local Business Awards and the Stock Journal People’s Choice Rural Business Awards, BankSA is recognising the important contribution of local business to the State's economy. Both awards programs are helping businesses to become more successful by lifting their profile and encouraging them to aspire to customer service excellence and best practice.

 Engaging our community

BankSA has a long and proud tradition of supporting a host of community events that improve our quality of life in South Australia.

In November 2005, BankSA secured the future of Australia’s biggest arts event, the Adelaide Fringe, with a five-year deal that gave the Fringe support to create a permanent presence in South Australia and helped it achieve its dream of staging an event every year.

In its first year, the relationship received national acclaim as Australia's leading business/arts partnership, winning the Australia Business Arts Foundation’s Partnership of the Year Award in 2006.

As Principal Partner of the Adelaide Fringe, BankSA does far more than provide sponsorship dollars. The bank pulls out all stops to help the Fringe enhance and share this iconic event with even more members of the community.  WeÃ??Ã?¢??re helping to increase the profile of artists and encourage greater audience participation in all things Fringe through our talkfringe website.  We are also engaging BankSA staff and customers with special Fringe programs and activities.

BankSA also sponsors one of the major attractions of Adelaide’s Royal Show, the BankSA Farmyard Nursery.  The nursery is popular with children and parents alike, who are delighted to see and interact with the many baby farm animals on show.

For the past two decades, BankSA has been a major sponsor of the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA). Today, BankSA’s support is committed to helping cricketers in regional and rural areas.  The various youth development activities and programs supported by the Bank are critical in providing the important pathways for country kids to pursue their cricket careers.

BankSA also supports the Art Galley of South Australia’s Small Talk and Departure programs which encourage and celebrate young people’s involvement in the arts.

The Bank is also a strong supporter of country field days, local and regional events, with every one of our 120 branches encouraged to support activities in their local communities.

 The BankSA Marquee

Since the 1970s, the BankSA marquee has been made available, free of cost, to various schools, community groups and charities throughout South Australia.  It’s travelled far and wide to provide a facility that has been vital for the staging of hundreds of country fairs, community events and fundraising functions.

 Volunteering

Giving back to the community isn't just rewarding for us as a business, it generates a lot of satisfaction for our staff who are able to get involved. That’s why we encourage our people to participate in volunteer projects, supporting them with one day a year of paid leave to assist a not for profit organisation of their choice. They can do this either as a team or individually.
